E3 Games 2014: What I was most excited to see (part 1)

E3 Games 2014

E3 has come and gone, and there were some pretty awesome announcements this year. I’m looking forward what time I can get in front of the consoles this year! Most importantly, I can’t wait to go hands on with some of these titles at PAX in Seattle later this summer.

Here is a preliminary list of what I’m most excited from what was revealed at E3:

The_Division

the 857th Tom Clancy game out there: The Division

Tom Clancy’s The Division (Ubisoft, PC, Xbox One, PS4, Release TBD)

I’ve been a fan of the Tom Clancy games since I played the first Splinter Cell back on my original Xbox. I fell in love with the stealth Genre from there on and have since spent many, many hours with Sam Fischer. The new game, the Division, looks nothing like Splinter Cell but it has an amazing trailer – one of the best I’ve seen for a video game in years. It was riveting and at one point, heart-breaking as well. If the game is anything like the trailer, this is going to be a great game.

The Order: 1886 (SCE, PS4 exclusive, Release TBD)TheOrder_1886

The Order: 1886 is a game I’ve been following for a while but didn’t really know much about. It’s been described as a “steampunk-inspired shooter”, which is enough to get me interested. The new trailer shows a very, very spooky angle on the game. And the graphics (rendered on a PS4) look AH-mazing!

Uncharted4Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (Naughty Dog, PS4 exclusive, Release TBD)

I was a die-hard xbox 360 fan during the last console generation (I didn’t’ have a PS3, but this generation I’m all about the PS4), so I missed out on the Uncharted series. Still, I followed the games hoping I’d be able to play them someday. The footage from the new Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End looks pretty awesome. This trailer was also rendered on a PS4 and makes me want to get my mitts on the game so bad!

FableLegends

Fable Legends (Xbox One Exclusive, Beta coming late 2014)

I personally have not spent a lot of time hands on with the Fable series, but my significant other has and I admit the trailers for the new Fable series are beautiful. I’ve always been impressed with the gorgeously-rendered world created in this series and I’m excited to see the new Fable game in person.

PlaystationTVPlaystation TV (Sony, Releasing This Fall)

Micro consoles and streaming devices are a dime a dozen, and at this point the number/variety of media streamers is almost ridiculous. What sets the PS TV apart however, is the ability to live stream games from your PS4. For households with multiple tv users, this is a killer app for me – be able to play my PS4 in another room while the hubby watches TV in the media room? Yes please! I’m curious to see how it holds up in the real world given the patchwork of wired/wireless/homeplug networking in my house, and what games might or might not be supported. Oh and it is a typical media/game streaming device as well (yawn!).

GTAV Coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC this fall (told ya so!)

Despite my last article on GTAV, I ended up getting it as a Christmas gift and spent a few hours with it. It’s a decent game, but my no means groundbreaking. While the character switching was touted as revolutionary, I found it kind of annoying. Still, its a worthy addition to Rockstar’s portfolio. The graphics were however, completely underwhelming and felt no different from GTA4 (fair enough since they were running on the same generation of consoles). For the life of my I could not figure out why Rockstar didn’t launch on next gen consoles, but now we know the answer! And lets be honest, GTA is a game that just BEGS for cheat codes (which are heavily restricted on Consoles) – bring on the PC version!

There was lots revealed other than these games, including Project Morpheus to Rise of the Tomb Raider to Assassins Creed Liberation. What are you most excited for from E3?
