Megan’s Week in Geek: Christmas Free Stuff!

As you can tell by this Week in Geek, and a few previously – I am seriously gearing up for Christmas! I love finding fun gifts for people and surprising people with something they weren’t expecting (see egg cubers in last weeks article). We can’t afford to buy everyone a new PS4, so check out this small grouping of things you can give for free this Christmas!

Good Old Games is currently having a winter special where you can get Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics for free! (Limited until December 14th, so hurry over there!) They also have a list of other free and temporarily free games that is well worth checking out!

CardsAgainstHumanity
Cards Against Humanity is a game that we have long talked about at Dorkadia (that please note, may not be the best gift to give or play around kids unless you want to explain what bukakay is to little children), and one of it’s many virtues is that it is an open source game that you can download the PDF yourself and print out cards for free! A home made deck of Cards Against Humanity will be a welcome addition to any nerds home who loves a good party game!

Stormtrooper

In the same spirit of DIY but WAY more complex – these Star Wars Christmas snow flakes would make great decorations for any geek’s pad! I will warn you ahead of time, the images on this link are incredibly awesome and mine SUPER didn’t look that awesome. Get ready to sharpen your sissors, put episode 6 on in the background and start making some awesome C3PO shaped snow flakes!

Are you familiar with the Elf on the Shelf (the story that tells how Santa knows if children are being good or not)? Well this link to a more… R rated Elf on the Shelf escapades made me think that a fun gift would be to do a photo shoot of something similar with Legos – stage a photo shoot of their shenanigans around your house telling a story in photos! Would make a great emailed gift!

If you have little nerds in the house, you might think about printing out coloring pages and making their own Doctor Who coloring book! (Or not so little nerds. I would probably spend more time than I am comfortable telling you on trying to get the colour of the sonic screwdriver just right!)

Lastly, if you also have yarn and the skill to make things with your hands (this is entirely past my skill level) Moogly has 10 free crochet Star Wars patterns to make some pretty awesome projects including this really cute Princess Leia hat/wig!

So sharpen up your tools, download some templates, and get ready to surprise all your nerdly friends and family!
