Justice League

JLU

I don’t hide the fact that i’m pretty much a DC fangirl, and consume tons of whatever media they throw at me (though in general, you can assume that i’m mostly reading Batman). Since Injustice: Gods Among us comes out next Tuesday, I was reminded what an INCREDIBLE cartoon series’ Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited were!

I stumbled across this show by accident when trying to find some new comic books to read, and I immediately downloaded and watched both series as fast as I could. The animation is good (it isn’t drowned in computer graphics), and the voice acting is great (Kevin Conroy as Batman, Michael Rosenbaum as The Flash, etc); but what REALLY makes this series is the truly engaging story lines. Justice League split their story lines between 2-3 episodes, giving the ability to have more complex story lines without having to assume you know the entire backstory of every character, and they also avoid the ‘end of episode 1, they are diving off a cliff to their doom! then start of episode 2 they are standing on the cliff watching the car fall’ sort of deal. (I watched too much Adam West). This is the core team (Batman, The Flash (Wally West) Superman, Green Lantern (John Stewart), Hawk Girl and the Martian Manhunter), and it covers the creation of the league as well as a healthy dose of villains from each individual as well. They continue on to a second series after the 2nd season of Justice League, with Justice League Unlimited. While episodes mostly go down to only 30 minute stories, the league expands to a much larger effort and bring in a whole slew of supporting cast members (Huntress, Supergirl, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Zatanna, Captain Marvel and more).

What really struck me with this show is that while still catering to a young audience, they still were able to give that introspective feel…  asking the questions of ‘do we have the right to do this’? ***SPOILERS*** When the watch tower fires upon the earth and there just soooo many questions that the league have to answer for – the defeated look on The Flash’s face when the public are angry and afraid of the league? wooooo…. it felt a lot deeper than your standard Saturday morning cartoon. What i’m getting at is, weather you’re familiar with the Justice League or not, this is an incredible series to watch. With 5 seasons between the two shows Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, there is plenty of entertainment to be had!

While speaking of Justice League…..

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a game I am SUPER going to play. I got my hands on it at PAX Prime last year, and have been waiting ever since to play! It feels very much like a Mortal Kombat style fighter with the characters you know, but there is also a story mode (which i’m sure will present itself in a developing plot between each combat you complete).

Check out the trailer to Injustice here.

Yeah… My first step is to play as Nightwing and his fancy glow sticks. Peace out everyone, I know what i’ll be watching and playing for the next couple of weeks!
