Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic

If you find yourself in Seattle for this weekend, do yourself a favor and stop by the Experience Music Project, and check out the exhibit for Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic.

CharlesonIronThroneBefore you even get into the exhibit, in the lobby, you have the opportunity to sit on the Iron Throne from the HBO set of Game of Thrones (Charles demonstrating here). I’ll tell you, it’s SUPER less impressive in person, and I still squeed like a little girl that I got to sit on it.

When you’re done taking photos with everyone you know and uploading to the twitterverse, turn around and there is a giant wooden door that you go through to enter the fantasy exhibit – which is super impressive. You walk into a small room that is lined with walls that look like trees and woods. You’re walking on actual pine needles – how cool is that? It made me feel like Disneyland where you’re suddenly in a fantasy realm and that’s super rad.

You enter different areas like The Art of Roleplaying, The Dragons Lair (with an animatronic dragon!), The Power of of World Building, The Branch Library of Arcane Wizardry, and different areas that show videos of creative people talking about aspects of fantasy in Books, movies, games, and more. Also, don’t miss the area that has canvas art from Wizards of the Coast, Blizzard and Pixar!

Check out below some of the costumes and art that you’ll find in the exhibit!
Buttercup
Mystic maquette
PanFace  Narnia
Like other exhibits that i’ve enjoyed at the EMP previously, i’ll warn you that this is a small exhibit – don’t expect to go and spend hours here. That said, you can easily spend hours total at the EMP including their Icons of Science Fiction / Fantasy exhibit, Women who Rock Exhibit, and another favorite of mine, the sound studio where you get to play on real instruments.

Tickets are $15 online, but this exhibit closes on the 28th of July, so get there this weekend if you can!
