Megan’s Week in Geek Review

Last week in the Week in Geek, I seemed to be all comics all the time (which admittedly is a common topic with me), but there was more on the internet than DC trying to set their fans on fire that caught my attention!

triforceDid you see that AMAZING Paul Michael triforce ring? This guy does some amazing work. I know i’ve only been married for 4ish years now, but when do I get to have more wedding rings, that’s a thing right? ‘Cause I could have a different awesome ring every day of the week. (examples? OH RIGHT HERE!)

Speaking of things that are pretty, I love watching cosplayers on the internet. One of my favorites this year was just a stupidly brilliant idea – the folks who cosplayed as the carpet camouflage at Dragon Con. What’s new to report on this front this week though is that the company who makes the carpet apparently gave them a cease and desist on selling their carpet designs. Party poopers… more people probably looked at their carpet designs in the past month than have in the past year because of that cosplay!

As I am writing this, i’ve been wrapping my brain around the two announcements from Valve / Steam this week, with a 3rd to come in about 9 hours. Monday was the Steam OS, which I honestly wasn’t expecting. I like the idea of getting more gamers to try linux, but Steam just wasn’t what I felt would make that push! Wednesday was the Steam hardware, or the Steam Box we all thought was coming. I’m really excited to see this part! What makes console gaming a shared experience that PC gaming usually fails at is the consistent shared experience – PC’s vary in speed, memory, graphics… even the way the box itself looks. This is a step that helps put people who want to buy a pre-made rig a consistent gaming experience that others in their friends list for steam will have! So the 3rd announcement? While we would all love to see Half Life 3 be the game to launch on the Steam box, my guess is it’s still going to be hardware related. The cryptic note at the bottom of the Steam Hardware announcement though still has me guessing! “Am I going to be using a mouse and a keyboard in the living-room?    If you want. But Steam and SteamOS work well with gamepads, too. Stay tuned, though – we have some more to say very soon on the topic of input.”

AgentsOfShieldLastly, Agents of Shield. I don’t know how super excited I am about this show? I liked it! And i’m a sucker for police procedural dramas. What I don’t know is, will this show be CSI: Shield, or is this a proving ground to test the crazy comic book plots before we unleash the GIANT DISNEY MACHINE on the Marvel universe? I want to see more. ALSO IS COULSON A CLONE BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE AMAZING.

That’s all i’ve got for this week. Anything you guys found awesome this week I skipped over?
