Hello Hero – Party based fantasy combat for mobile devices

Hello Hero is an interesting, simple, and oddly compelling team building combat game currently available from Fincon for iOS and Android systems. Honestly, it looked a bit cheesy regardless of how cute it may have been. While that’s not entirely off base, the charm and simplicity of Hello Hero makes it well worth playing. It includes several modes of play including a campaign, dungeon, arena, pvp, time attack and boss raids. A great title for people that enjoy catching all the things and making them fight.

Fun and easy

The game play elements of Hello Hero are pretty simple and easy to understand. You assemble a group of up to 5 heroes, equip them with weapons and armor, then send them against a group of bad guys to save the world of Armon from invasion. All characters perform auto attacks against random enemies. You can manually choose special attacks from your team one at a time (a new selection overrides a current one if it hasn’t happened yet), though they still target randomly. As you gain player levels, you will eventually unlock more game modes and the ability to set your little guys to completely automatic mode, giving control of special abilities to the AI as well.

Just a brief note here about in game currencies. Winning fights often awards gold, which is used to upgrade heroes, revive fallen heroes quickly after battles, or purchase upgrades to the number of heroes you are allowed to have at one time. Honor is another type of currency earned from quests or competing in the arena that allows the purchase of hero and item packs from the shop. Carats are the premium currency in the game and can be earned through quests, attaining rank in raid boss and arena competitions, or purchased directly for real money.

Collect all the things!

Hello Hero Angry Venus Fly TrapHello Hero is a game for collectors and lovers of light RPG elements. It has over 160 different heroes to collect, level, and equip. Once acquired, heroes are checked off in your recruitment log so you’ll know exactly which guys you have and haven’t gotten. But catching them is only half of the fun. You can then put them in parties and send them out to fight baddies and gain levels up to a maximum of level 30 so you can get them listed as mastered in your log. Mastering a new character also increases your player’s maximum honor as well as providing a few carats. You also get to use characters you don’t want (duplicate heroes for example) to upgrade others up to 5 times. Upgrading provides direct stat boosts. And when you have two characters of level 30 with 5 upgrades on them of the same grade (yep, there’s a rarity grading system), you can fuse them to make a new character of a higher grade. The grading system also works for items (though they can’t be upgraded, fused, etc.) which your characters can equip. You have an offensive and defensive slot available for equipment. Armor and weapons are just for attack and defense stats at the lowest rarity grade, but start getting stat boosts as you find items of a higher rarity.

Stay plugged in

The thing to note about this game is that it seems to eat battery power pretty quickly. It’s a great game for commuting or when you have access to a charger and can leave it up and running next to you. Just make sure you don’t need to have a really long day without charging if you plan to play it. You can reduce graphic and frame rate settings to keep your device from heating up, but I haven’t noticed a change in battery consumption from that. It could also be that I’m playing on an older iPhone 4.

Overall, Hello Hero scratches that itch to collect all the little guys and make them fight for you. It’s filled with interesting and unique character designs that all provide a fun level of tactics to the game. The graphics are crisp and there are social elements added to the game to incentivize players to get their friends involved as well. Those elements aren’t necessary and the game can certainly be enjoyed without spending any money or playing with friends unless you want to. Hello Hero is currently synchronized across Android and iOS platforms with a Facebook version in the works as well. It’s well worth giving a try if you have time to spend on a cute, free title.
