Episode 20 – Board games for the novice

This week we thought it would be a good idea to talk about good board games to get people into playing board games. This has absolutely nothing to do with the gift giving season or the fact that these items are available easily in the Item Shop (it’s at the top of the page). We’re actually quite fond of unplugging and sitting around a table with friends. Sometimes those people don’t really want to roll dice and pretend to be elf wizards elfing up the world at large. For those people, something more traditional is probably a good time.

  • dorkadiapodcastJon tells us all about the problems with the Hobbit movie and the joys of American Horror Story.
  • Don’t forget to check out Cards Against Humanity.
  • First up, a calming, zen, and certainly not competitive game where you can force your friends to their doom: Tsuro.
  • Too young to really think of Scrabble as the original? There’s always the Words With Friends board game.
  • If you must, get people to play Settlers of Catan and don’t forget to make a “wood for sheep” joke.
  • Abstraction and awesomeness with Dixit.
  • Collaborative and competitive storytelling card game Once Upon A Time.
  • Perhaps not for beginners, but Battlestar Galactica is an amazing board game.
  • If you’re feeling like an adventurous caveman, Og: Unearthed Edition.
  • And GM-less role playing with Fiasco.
  • Megan just can’t resist an opportunity to complain about Yu-Gi-Oh!
