Annoying Gamers – Day 19 D&D 40th Anniversary Blog Hop

This is day 19 of the of d20 Dark Ages’ D&D 40th Anniversary Blog Hop Challenge! Based off of the challenge’s prompts I will be sharing personal stories about my history with Dungeons & Dragons every day in February. Day 19: Who was the first gamer who just annoyed the hell out of you?

This blog hop is really hitting all of the low notes of being a D&D player: edition wars, being ostracized because D&D is evil, tossing a fit about character death, and now being annoyed at your fellow hobbiests. It’s a parade of the petty negative things that years of D&D can etch into your memory. I see what this question is getting at. Stories about socially inept, Cheeto munching, rat-tail wearing nerds can be super funny! But that’s not how I want to celebrate 40th long years of D&D.

My positive two cents however: most problems between players at the table can be resolved through excellent communication. Not that discussion will make someone less annoying, but discussion is always the first step to finding a resolution whatever that may be. So let’s make sure we keep our friends as friends while gaming with those players that will make our games the best they can be!
